Recipes

Our recipes offer tasty ways to easily incorporate Dr Coy’s sugars into your daily life.

Dr Coy formulated these recipes to help stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels to achieve optimal
performance of body and mind.

Dr Coy’s Nutrition

Some of Dr Coy’s recipes could be considered keto-friendly, as they are high in fat.

Dr Coy has studied popular diet trends from Paleo to Atkins, and while there are benefits to a ketogenic diet, a severe reduction of sugar and carbohydrates can have a negative impact on our performance and stress tolerance.

If almost all the calories in a diet consist of fat, like the ketogenic diet – an "extreme form" of low carb – the body does not receive enough sugar in the long run. This can reduce mental and physical performance and significantly lower stress tolerance.

However, if 70 to 80% of total calories are from fats, the ketogenic metabolism is still kickstarted.

When the body lacks sugar, as occurs with an extremely high-fat diet, the metabolism forms ketone bodies from fatty acids, which our cells use as fuel. Ketone bodies can even replace part of the brain’s sugar requirements.

Unlike a low-carb or ketogenic diet, Dr Coy recommends a diet which contains sufficient sugar to keep blood sugar and insulin levels stable – maximizing our performance – without any negative health effects from classic sugars and carbs.

Ketogenic metabolism & cancer patients

For cancer patients undergoing chemo- or radiation therapy treatment, a ketogenic metabolism can make it more difficult for the tumour cells to repair cell damage. The sugar deficiency increases the tumour cell’s sensitivity which triggers the cell’s death.

Following a strict ketogenic diet for a few days can have a positive effect on the sensitivity of tumour cells because DNA repair is dependent on the presence of Dr Coy’s sugar, ribose. Without sufficient ribose, DNA damages caused by chemo- and radiation therapy cannot be repaired. This leads to tumour cell death, making cancer therapies more effective.

However, if a patient follows a strict ketogenic diet permanently, healthy cells can also become more sensitive to cell damage and their ability to repair damage decreases. This can also accelerate the ageing process.
